Between June 23rd and August 15th 2007 students from Makerere University's Margaret Trowell School conducted their industrial training requirement online with the aid of five DWB mentors.

Many thanks to Raymond Prucher, Jane deBruijn, Sydnee MacKay, Tim Smith, and Julian Kiganda for volunteering their time to work with these students.

From mid-May to early August 2007 Fred Quilllin worked as DWBs first student volunteer at the Foundation for Development of Needy Communities in Mbale, Uganda. Learn more about his experience.

NIADpaintings On Entebbe Road south of Kampala Kasule Kizito is building The Nagenda Institute of Art and Design. DWB gave NIAD its first Macintosh graphics workstation, and made a donation to its library.

Designers Without Borders has been working at the Design Center of Kyambogo University since September 2006, teaching design courses and helping to establish the Center's first computer lab. On October 4, 2006 DWB donated a MacMini dual core workstation, complete with scanner and printer.

 

The Foundation for Development of Needy Communities offers vocational classes in a variety of disciplines for the rural residents of eastern Uganda. When DWB saw the condition of its obsolete Compaq lab, we decided to help FDNC rebuild. DWB collaborated with Architecture for Humanity's Siyathemba project in 2005. An online call for entries was judged by an international jury with the winning entry coming from Marlena Buzek of New York.

Designers Without Borders assisted James Lutwama in his efforts to acquire title to the 15 acres where FHope's Arcadia Valleys is located. This will enable James to apply for funds to develop a resource center for orphans.

 

Mwereerwe Secondary School Faculty
Located in Bombo, about an hour north of Kampala, MSS was completely rebuilt by faculty, students and their parents after the last Ugandan civil war left 300,000 dead in the Luwero Triangle. DWB gave the school its first computer.

NACWOLA Performance Troupe
The National Committee of Women Living With AIDS in Uganda has been doing exemplary work helping reduce Uganda's overall rate of infection. Through performance, education, and support programs for women and orphaned girls, NACWOLA members bear out the organizations slogan, "living positively."

Makerere Art Gallery
The Art Gallery at Makerere University is part of the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA). DWB participated in school exhibitions, designed a show catalogue, created the first MTSIFA website, and donated a Macintosh G4 to the design program.
